On the occasion of its 100th anniversary, the Institute for Ethnic Issues is launching a literary competition with the aim of encouraging students from abroad, aged 10 to 18, to reflect on the importance of their mother tongues, the Slovenian language, language learning and multilingualism in their lives.<\/em><\/p>\n

We cordially invite all students of Slovenian in the border areas of Austria, Croatia, Italy and Hungary to share their thoughts and experiences with us.<\/em><\/p>\n

\nLITERATURE COMPETITION:
\n<\/strong>“My Languages, My Dreams”<\/strong><\/p>\n

In 2025, the Institute for Ethnic Issues, as the oldest research institute in Slovenia, celebrates its 100th anniversary. Throughout its history, it has been dedicated to issues of ethnicity, interethnic relations and minority protection, and with its excellence it has developed into one of the most important international centres for research on such topics.<\/p>\n

On this anniversary, the Institute for Ethnic Issues is announcing a call for a literary competition, with which it aims to encourage students of the Slovenian language from 10 to 18 years of age to reflect on the importance of their mother tongues, the Slovenian language, language learning and multilingualism in their lives.<\/p>\n

We invite you to express your experiences and wishes for the future in the form of a literary essay on the topic of bilingualism or multilingualism, linguistic identity or learning different languages.<\/p>\n

Rules of the literary competition:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. Right Students aged 10 to 18 in the border areas of Austria, Croatia, Italy and Hungary are eligible to participate. Persons who are between 10 and 18 years old on the date of publication of the call (March 24, 2025) are eligible to participate.<\/li>\n
  2. The title of the literary competition is “My Languages, My Dreams”. Literary works should be in essay form. Participants are free to choose the content of the work, but it should relate to the influence of Slovenian and\/or other languages \u200b\u200bon their identity, wishes for the future or the general role of languages \u200b\u200bin their lives.<\/li>\n
  3. The call is open until May 30, 2025, 23:59.<\/strong><\/li>\n
  4. The length of the literary work should be 3,000 to 10,000 characters with spaces; the criteria for length vary by age category (see below). Only contributions that meet the criteria listed will be considered. All works must be submitted by e-mail in Word format. Literary works can be written in Slovenian or the language that is closest to the participants and in which they express themselves best.<\/b><\/li>\n
