Classes are therefore designed to introduce the Romani language while simultaneously promoting literacy.

In Bela Krajina, the situation regarding the Romani language is different: the language is still strongly present in private and family circles and serves as the first language for most children. Classes are therefore largely designed to deliver the curriculum in Romani, which in the first three years primarily takes the form of interdisciplinary instruction in language, mathematics, and environmental studies.

As part of the project, we again analyzed the progression of Romani children to the next grade based on whether
they attend Romani language classes or not. Following poorer results in the 2024/2025 school year, which were the result of a combination of various factors (an increase in the number of children and, consequently, lower quality of work in larger and more heterogeneous groups, where there were suddenly more children with less interest, the extraordinary workload of the teacher, who was also dealing with health issues at the time, and the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic), the data for the 2024/2025 school year showed a strong upward trend in all grades except first grade. Nevertheless, we conclude that supplementary instruction has a positive impact on academic performance, especially among students who attend regularly.

Due to the desire to expand the program, recruitment of new schools to offer Romani language instruction has begun. After reviewing the enrolled Roma children and the restriction to the Dolenjska region, we sent inquiries to the following elementary schools: Stara Cerkev Elementary School, Zbora Odposlancev Elementary School, Bršljin Elementary School, Šmihel Elementary School, Ob Rinži Elementary School, Leskovec pri Krškem Elementary School, Drska Elementary School, Šentjernej Elementary School, Škocjan Elementary School, Ribnica Elementary School, Semič Elementary School, Trebnje Elementary School, Tišina Elementary School.

Unfortunately, the response was rather lukewarm; nevertheless, we received letters expressing interest in the program from four schools:

Trebnje Elementary School,

Dr. France Prešeren Elementary School in Ribnica,

Stara Cerkev Elementary School, and

Bršljin Elementary School.

[59
post-9556","projects","type-projects","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","project-categories-research-projects
["GET
