You are invited to the opening of the guest exhibition on Friday, 9 October 2026, at 6.00 pm at the Koper Regional Museum (Kidričeva ulica 19, Koper)
The exhibition Atlantis. Small Worlds tells the stories of settlements that have lost their inhabitants due to economic migration, political decisions or natural disasters, yet remain alive in people’s memories. The focus is on five small worlds – places that were once teeming with life, whose ruins are now overgrown with vegetation: Novi Log, Stari Tabor and Trbiž in eastern Slovenia, as well as the Istrian settlements of Vršič and Završje/Piemonte d’Istria, the former on the Slovenian side of the border and the latter on the Croatian side.
This exhibition forms part of a wider international exhibition conceived by Andrea Vándor from the Museum of European Cultures (KOMSOE at MEK) in Berlin. The Slovenian section of the exhibition was prepared in collaboration with Dr Neža Čebron Lipovec and Andrej Preložnik (the Istrian village of Vršič), Dr Anja Moric (the Kočevar villages of Novi Log and Stari Tabor, and the hamlet of Trbiž in the Savinja Valley) and Dr Lidija Nikočević for the settlement of Završje/Piemonte d’Istria.
The project brings together stories of disappearing places across Europe. Following the presentation in Slovenia, all the selected examples of vanished European settlements featured in the project will be included in the final exhibition in Berlin in 2027.
The exhibition will run until 26 November 2026.
