Institute for Ethnic Studies (INV), in collaboration with the KPD Bazovica Slovenian Centre, produced a Slovenian-Croatian bilingual edition of the picture book ‘Dora gre na Snežnik / Dora ide na Snežnik’ by author Sabina Skok in 2026. The project, which involved the translation, proofreading and printing of the picture book, was carried out with financial support from the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of the Republic of Slovenia and the Ministry of Science, Education and Youth of the Republic of Croatia.
The picture book is intended for pre-school and school-age children and serves as teaching material for learning the Slovenian language in Croatia. The bilingual edition facilitates the acquisition of Slovenian vocabulary, promotes the development of a reading culture and contributes to the preservation of the Slovenian language amongst the younger generations of the Slovenian community in Croatia.
The picture book was presented in October 2026 at a seminar for Slovenian language teachers in Rijeka. On this occasion, it was distributed to Slovenian language teachers in Croatia, who will be able to use it as a teaching aid in the classroom. Copies were subsequently distributed to the libraries of those schools in Croatia where Slovenian language lessons are taught.
The project contributes to greater access to high-quality bilingual teaching materials and supports the teaching and preservation of the Slovenian language in Croatia.
