Sabina Zorčič received her doctorate in Applied Linguistics from the Faculty of Arts, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Sonja Novak Lukanović. Entitled 'Habitus, Capital, and Identities in Communication Practices in Austrian Carinthia', her doctoral thesis received an award for the best work in the field of Slovenes abroad from the Government Office of the Republic of Slovenia for Slovenians Abroad.
Her research work focuses on language choice, language proficiency, linguistic and ethnic identities, the concept of native speakers, minority and cross-border education (especially in Austrian Carinthia), and the Romani language in Slovenia. As Editor-In-Chief of one of the oldest scientific publications on ethnicity, the Treatises and Documents, Journal of Ethnic Studies, she is responsible for overseeing its publication.
