Treatises and Documents Journal

Aims and scope

Treatises and Documents, Journal of Ethnic Studies is an international journal that aims to advance the multidisciplinary study of ethnic and minority issues. It has been published by the Institute for Ethnic Studies in Ljubljana since 1960 as the specialised journal for ethnic issues, publishing articles by Slovenian and foreign experts. Two issues of the journal are published every year, usually in June and December.

The journal will publish high-quality articles in the field of ethnic and minority studies, especially on racial and ethnic relations, ethnic identity, nationalism, xenophobia, the protection of (ethnic, national, linguistic, religious, and other) minorities, migration, discrimination, citizenship, multiculturalism and related subjects. The journal is particularly – but not exclusively – interested in discussions exploring issues regarding the so-called Alpine-Adriatic-Pannonian area, such as:

  • present-day and historical perspectives on ethnic and minority issues in this region;
  • comparative studies that include – only partially or as a whole – this geographic area;
  • issues of migration, integration, and intercultural relations in this region.

More specifically, this area includes the following countries: Albania, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Czech Republic, Italy, Germany (especially the southern part), Hungary, Kosovo, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia. Macedonia and Bulgaria may also be interesting cases. However, the policy of the editorial board is also to publish excellent contributions with relevant content from different parts of the world, which we would be happy to present to our scientific audience.

The journal welcomes different types of contributions using various approaches, including historical and comparative studies or analyses, policy debates and evaluations, as well as theoretical work.

More information is available at the journal website.

Research Data Citation Policy

According to the Decree on the implementation of scientific research work in accordance with the principles of open science (Decree), the journal’s co-funder (Slovenian Research and Innovation Agency) requires the editorial board to provide open access to the research data used in the article prior to publication. The data must be prepared according to the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable).

Exceptions to open access to research data

If data cannot be fully shared for legal, ethical or other valid reasons, the authors must provide justification – for example, in cases involving the protection of personal data (see the EU General Data Protection Regulation), material containing trade secrets or other commercially sensitive information regulated by legislation, or data involving security risks. The Decree requires authors to provide open access to research data and other results from co-funded research according to the principle “as open as possible, as closed as necessary”.

Open Access Statement

The journal is an Open Access journal that allows free unlimited access to all its contents without any restrictions upon publication to all users. Articles are published under the CC-BY 4.0 Creative Commons license.

Funding

The journal is published with financial support from the Slovenian Research and Innovation Agency (ARIS)
