Slovenian associations in Croatia have a long, colorful, and rich history dating back almost a century. Although numerically smaller than other national minorities in Croatia, Slovenians have left an exceptionally important mark on the cultural, economic, and social life of the country over time. Their presence is particularly noticeable in border areas, but also in urban centers, where they have contributed to the development of education, industry, and the arts. This book aims to present the life of the Slovenian Cultural Association Lipa Zadar – an association that has been operating successfully for more than twenty years – and to show one aspect of the activities of the Slovenian community in Croatia. With the consent of Darja Jusup, Katarina Bezić, and Rafaela Štulina, we embarked on our research journey in early 2025 and succeeded in creating a book that presents the active and diverse twenty-year history of Slovenians from Zadar and the surrounding area, united in a cultural society. We were accompanied on this journey by members of the Slovenian Cultural Association Lipa Zadar, to whom we are sincerely grateful, especially Darja Jusup, Katarina Bezić, and Rafaela Štulina. We would also like to thank the reviewers, Dr. Ines Cvitković Kalanjoš and Dr. Jasminka Brala Mudrovčić, the Institute for Ethnic Studies*, and the Office of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for Slovenians Abroad and Around the World. Finally, we would also like to thank our family members, who patiently supported us throughout the creation of this book and encouraged our creative work.
