The study by Associate Professor Dr Barbara Riman is a fundamental scholarly work on Slovenian societies in Croatia from the late 19th to the late 20th century. The author has succeeded in assembling an extraordinary mosaic of the activities of Slovenes in Croatia, who, whilst maintaining their Slovenian national identity, enriched the cultural history of Croatia and the Croatian people, alongside, of course, the history of their own nation.
The Slovenes in Croatia shared the good and the bad of the Croatian people from the late 19th to the late 20th century. Some managed to integrate into their new homes more quickly, while others more slowly; in these places, they were initially newcomers but by the second generation had become part of the local population. What is also important is that it not only opened the door to future research, but also offered a model for the study of the social history of national minorities in general.
