For the project “WHEN THERE ARE NO MORE BORDERS” and, after Slovenia’s entry into the European Union, “WHEN THERE ARE NO MORE BORDERS,” we decided 15 years ago that Slovenians from the mother country and Slovenians from neighboring countries, who had been estranged for decades by turbulent history, should get to know each other better and together determine what the impact of long decades of “separation” from the language and culture of their people had been. How and to what extent have they preserved their Slovenian national identity as a minority? Do we still have Slovenian families and Slovenian communities living their daily lives alongside the majority nation, raising their children and teaching them Slovenian?
