On Monday, March 10, 2025, INV was visited by Dr. Linditë Sejdiu-Rugova, a professor at the Faculty of Philology of the University of Pristina, who presented a paper entitled The position of Albanian in the Presheva Valley in Serbia (as a minority language).
In her lecture, she discussed the status and use of the Albanian language in public institutions in the municipalities of Bujanovc and Preshevë in southwestern Serbia, where Albanians are estimated to represent the majority of the population and where Albanian, together with Serbian, is an official language. Since Albanians live there, the use of the Albanian language in public institutions in this municipality is guaranteed by law in accordance with the Law on the Use of Official Languages in Serbia (2005). The extent to which Albanian is recognized and used in these institutions is shown by the results of two studies conducted in different periods (2012/13 and 2023/24).
We sincerely thank Prof. Dr. Linditë Sejdiu-Rugovi for her extremely interesting lecture and look forward to future cooperation!
