Immigrant associations in Slovenia

Immigrant associations in Slovenia are organizations established and run by immigrants or their descendants. These associations focus primarily on preserving their cultures and languages in their new environment and strive to improve the status and rights of immigrant communities.
Membership in these associations is open—immigrants, their descendants, and any other individuals interested in the association’s activities can join.
An important feature of these organizations in Slovenia is that almost all of them operate with the legal status of an association.
Associations are most often established on the basis of nationality in places where a large number of immigrants of the same nationality live. In addition to associations that bring together immigrants of the same nationality, there are also organizations that bring people together on the basis of common interests or areas of activity, regardless of their nationality. Some examples of such associations are: the Union of Cultural Associations of the Constituent Nations and Nationalities of the Former SFRY in Slovenia, the Association of Erased Residents of Slovenia – Human Rights Association, the Gmajna Cultural Association, and A n K l a B – Association for Cultural Contamination.
In 2024, 129 immigrant organizations were registered with AJPES, of which 119 were active.
