Robert Devetak completed his doctoral studies in 2019 at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana. Between 2014 and 2018, he was employed as a young researcher at the Department of History of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana, and in October 2021 he joined the Institute for Ethnic Studies in Ljubljana, where he primarily focuses on researching the Slovenian community in Italy from the 19th century to the present day. The main topics he deals with are related to social and economic history, women's history, and nationalism at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, with an emphasis on the border area that is now divided between the Republic of Slovenia and the Republic of Italy. In addition, he researches topics related to refugees and the civilian population during the First World War. Since 2019, he has also been working at the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Nova Gorica.

He has published his research findings in several original scientific and professional articles and monographs and presented them in numerous radio interviews, at symposiums, round tables, and exhibitions.
