As part of the 12th Kočevar Culture Days, a presentation of dr. Anja Moric’s monograph Slovene Germans. Diaspora, Identities and Inter-community Relations. The author will be in conversation with dr. Marjeta Pisk.
The book sheds light on the history and present-day situation of the German-speaking population in Slovenia, with a particular focus on the Kočevar people. Drawing on life stories, archival sources and field research conducted in Slovenia, Austria, Germany, the USA and Canada, it explores their migration, processes of identity formation, remembrance and the silencing of the past, the preservation of cultural heritage, and relations between the minority and the majority population.
The presentation will form part of the varied programme of the Kočevar Culture Days, which will take place this year on 24 and 26 September in the municipality of Semič. The event, featuring a film evening, a walk through the Črmošnjiška Valley and a fair day, offers an opportunity to discover the Kočevar language, customs, creativity and the rich heritage of a community that has helped shape the Kočevje region and part of the Bela Krajina for more than six centuries.
