On October 14, 2024, employees of the Institute for Ethnic Studies took part in a union outing to Kočevski Rog, where we visited Base 20, which served as the headquarters of the political leadership of the Slovenian national liberation movement from April 1943 to December 1944. The decision to visit Base 20 was based on the fact that in 2025 we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Minority Institute, the predecessor of the INV. One of the institute’s predecessors was the Scientific Institute at the SNOS Presidency, established in January 1944 in the Kočevje forests.
We also visited the Jelendol partisan hospital, the partisan cemetery in the hospital for the wounded who died, and the cemetery for people killed after the war in the cave in Rugarski klanec. We were guided by Mr. Jože Saje, a museum employee at the Dolenjska Museum.
