Slovenian media in Austria yesterday and today
Contributions from the consultation at Slovenska matica on October 24, 2022
Edited by: Danijel Grafenauer

The consultation on Slovenian media in Austria yesterday and today was the second consultation of Slovenska matica on Slovenian media in Slovenia and neighboring countries. At the first event in this cycle, participants presented the situation of Slovenian media in Italy, Slovenia’s western neighbor. At the second event, we looked north toward Austria, continuing our cooperation with Slovenian cultural creators outside our national borders who belong to a unified cultural space defined by our Slovenian language.
The collection Slovenski mediji v Avstriji nekoč in danes (Slovenian Media in Austria Then and Now) follows the content of the conference and is divided into three sections: Slovenian Publishing Houses and Radio-Television in Austria, Slovenian Print Media and Magazines in Austria, and Reflections and Perspectives. The aim of the conference and the collection is to present to the Slovenian public the lesser-known but rich literary and journalistic activities of Slovenians in Austria, to offer a comprehensive and informative insight into the work of media institutions that publish in the Slovenian language, and to encourage constructive reflection that will outline possible perspectives for further quality development in the field of media of the Slovenian national community in the neighboring country. The collection offers readers all of the above and more, providing extensive information on the history, content, financial conditions, generational change, technological development, and operational difficulties of the Slovenian media in Austria.

The book was published jointly by Slovenska matica and the Institute for Ethnic Studies.
The book was published with the support of the Office of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for Slovenians Abroad and Around the World.
