Slovenian Language and Culture Classes in Varaždin County 2026

This project supports the preservation and development of the Slovenian language and culture in Varaždin County, Croatia, where part of the Slovenian minority community resides. Slovenian language and culture classes are offered as an extracurricular activity in primary schools and complement other forms of Slovenian language education in the region. The programme contributes to the preservation of linguistic and cultural identity, promotes multilingualism, and strengthens cross-border cooperation between Slovenia and Croatia. Special attention is given to teaching quality, student participation, cooperation with schools and the local community, and the promotion of Slovenian among young people. The project also monitors enrolment trends, organizational challenges, and good practices to ensure the long-term sustainability and visibility of Slovenian language learning in Varaždin County.
