Support and Development of Slovenian Language Instruction in Croatia – Consultation 2021

The meeting of teachers of the Slovenian language in Croatia represents an important professional gathering aimed at connecting teachers and improving the quality of Slovenian language instruction. It brought together teachers from all forms of teaching (supplementary classes, Model C, and teaching in Varaždin County), as well as experts and representatives of Slovenian institutions. The program included professional lectures, presentations of good practices, and discussions on the challenges of teaching. Particular emphasis was placed on modern didactic approaches, such as the use of robotics and puppetry in teaching, as well as addressing the language difficulties of students whose first language is Croatian. An important part of the meeting was also the exchange of experiences among teachers, enabling the transfer of knowledge into practice.

Participants evaluated the meeting very positively, especially due to the usefulness of the content, good organization, and a supportive, collaborative environment. At the same time, they highlighted the need for more practical workshops, additional training, and more frequent professional meetings. Such gatherings play an important role in the professional development of teachers and in strengthening their mutual cooperation. They contribute to improving teaching and, indirectly, to the preservation of the Slovenian language and culture in Croatia, with continuous institutional and professional support remaining essential.
