Support and Development of Slovenian Language Instruction in Croatia – Consultation 2022
The 2022 meeting of Slovene language teachers in Croatia once again confirmed that networking among teaching staff is essential for the high-quality implementation of Slovene language education in diverse environments. The meeting provides a unique space for exchanging experiences, acquiring new knowledge, and building professional as well as personal connections among teachers. The evaluation results indicate a high level of participant satisfaction, with particular emphasis on the usefulness of lectures, practical workshops, and opportunities for open dialogue with institutions. Such meetings make a significant contribution to teachers’ professional development and to the improvement of teaching practices.
Despite these positive outcomes, teachers still face a number of challenges, including a lack of teaching materials, staff instability, and diverse working conditions depending on the type of instruction and geographical area. Therefore, continued professional training and systematic networking among teaching staff remain essential. Slovene language teachers play a key role in preserving and developing the Slovene language and culture in Croatia. Their work significantly contributes to strengthening language competence, identity, and the visibility of the Slovene community. For the long-term success of the project, cooperation and support from both countries are crucial, as well as active community involvement, including the use of the language within the family environment.
