DR. VANEK ŠIFTAR – SLOVENIAN ROMOLOGIST (supplemented edition)

Today (2025), almost fifteen years after the first edition of the collection, we can see how Vanek’s thoughts on culture, language, history, and the actual situation of the Roma are still relevant. Given this, it is not surprising that the first edition of the collection attracted a great deal of interest and that the stock of copies of the monograph is almost sold out. We have therefore decided to reissue it with some additions and updates, so that the “new” version comprises three content sections. We have added a first, introductory section, which includes a foreword by the editor, a contribution by two former presidents of the Republic of Slovenia—Milan Kučan and Danilo Türk—and a joint foreword by the publishers of the collection, Knjigi (monografiji) na pot – zakaj nova, dopolnjena izdaja? , a text by the Romologist from the Roma community, Jožek Horvat Muca, entitled Vanek Šiftar – Romologist and Friend of the Roma, and a contribution by Dr. Mitja Žagar Memories of working and being friends with Dr. Vanek Šiftar and our contribution to the constitutional regulation of the rights and status of the Roma community and its members in the Republic of Slovenia. The introductory content is particularly valuable and enriched by the writings of two former presidents of the Republic of Slovenia, who knew Vanek personally and held his work in high regard.
