Supplementary Instruction in Native Languages and Cultures – The Status and Challenges of Supplementary Instruction in Hungarian Language and Culture – Parents’ Opinions

This study examines the implementation of supplementary Hungarian language and culture classes in Ljubljana and Maribor, which are held in educational facilities and co-funded by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Slovenia (MVI). The study is conducted from the perspective of the parents of children enrolled in the supplementary classes. The aim of the study is to gain insight into parents’ views regarding the reasons for enrolling their children in supplementary classes in Hungarian language and culture and to examine their satisfaction with the implementation of the classes. The focus will primarily be on aspects of lesson organization, the professional qualifications of instructors, the suitability of teaching materials, the locations where classes are held, and the scheduling of lessons. The empirical part of the study is based on a quantitative research approach, with data collection conducted via a questionnaire administered to parents of students at both locations. The findings of the study can contribute to a better understanding of parents’ needs and expectations and provide a professional basis for further improvements in the quality of supplementary instruction in Hungarian language and culture.
