Research Councillor
Katalin Munda Hirnök is a doctor of ethnology and professor of Slovenian language and literature. She is a research counsellor at the Institute for Ethnic Studies in Ljubljana, where she has been employed since 1991. She was born in the Slovenian Porabje region, and her research work in projects focuses on the position of Slovenians in Hungary – in Porabje and outside the area of indigenous settlement (legal, socio-political, economic-social and linguistic position, internal migration, recent history), and interethnic relations in border regions. In recent years, she has been intensively involved in the situation of minority education in Porabje and various aspects of the revitalization of the Porabje dialect/Slovenian language.
