Romana Bešter graduated in Political Science from the Faculty of Social Sciences in Ljubljana in 1998 (Klinar Prize for her thesis). In the same year she joined the Institute for National Ethnic Issues as a young researcher. From 1998 to 2003 she worked as an assistant professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences in the course Comparative Political Systems and from 1998 to 2001 in the course Protection of Minorities. In 2001 she completed her Master's degree in Political Science - Ethnic Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences and in 2006 she obtained her Ph.D. degree in the same programme with the dissertation "Integration Policy - Immigrant Integration Policy: a Theoretical Model and a Case Study of the Republic of Slovenia". Her research focuses on migration, ethnic studies and human rights. Her research focuses on integration policies, integration processes of immigrants and other ethnic minorities, as well as on the protection of human rights (and in this context in particular minority rights).
