Integration of immigrants into Slovenia’s social security system: analysis of statistical indicators, policies, public opinion and media reporting

The project Immigrant Integration into the Welfare State in Slovenia: Analysis of Statistical Indicators, Policies, Public Attitudes and Media Reporting examines the position of immigrants within Slovenia’s welfare system and societal attitudes towards their inclusion in the welfare state. In recent decades, many European countries have experienced debates about whether immigration poses challenges to the sustainability of welfare states. At the same time, research suggests that successful integration of immigrants is essential for long-term social stability. The project therefore explores how immigrants are included in Slovenia’s welfare system and how this inclusion is shaped by legislation, public policies, public opinion, and media reporting.

The research combines several complementary approaches and methods. It analyses legislation and policies in the fields of social security, integration, and multiculturalism; examines statistical data on the use of social transfers; investigates public attitudes towards these issues; and studies how the media portray immigrants and the welfare state. By integrating these perspectives, the project aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the position of immigrants in Slovenia and of the factors shaping public attitudes and social solidarity in an increasingly diverse society.
