Opportunities for Learning Slovenian as a Minority Language at the Játékvár Preschool in Monošter – Parents’ Opinions
The project examines the possibilities of learning Slovenian as a minority language at the Játékvár kindergarten in Monošter, Hungary, and the role of the kindergarten in preserving Slovenian identity in the Porabje region. The purpose of the study was to examine parents’ attitudes toward learning the Slovenian language, the importance of Slovenian and the Porabje dialect in the family environment, and the impact of the ethnic kindergarten on preserving language and cultural identity among members of the Slovenian ethnic community. The study was based on a quantitative research method. Data were collected using a questionnaire administered to parents of children attending the Játékvár kindergarten. Analysis of the responses provided insight into parents’ attitudes toward learning Slovenian, the use of the Slovenian language in the family environment, their motivation for enrolling their children in the Slovenian group, and their perception of the kindergarten’s role in preserving language and identity. The findings of the study contribute to a better understanding of the factors influencing the preservation of the Slovenian language and cultural heritage in Porabje, and highlight the importance of preschool education in the intergenerational transmission of language and cultural identity.
